Waterloo Electricians is a booking line. It is not an electrical company, and it is not a directory that sells your enquiry to a list of bidders. It connects to one local electrical contractor working across the city — the pre-war houses uptown and through Mary-Allen, the 1970s subdivisions in Lakeshore and Beechwood, the newer streets in Laurelwood, Columbia Forest and Vista Hills, and the student rentals around the universities — plus Kitchener next door and St. Jacobs, Elmira and the rural roads of Woolwich Township.

Electrical work has a particular selling problem. Most homeowners cannot see the work once it is done, cannot judge it while it is being done, and are often calling because someone else — an insurer, a home inspector, the city — has told them they need something. That attracts a certain kind of quote: a service upgrade recommended where a subpanel would do, a whole-house rewire where one ceiling was live, a charger installed on a circuit that the panel could not really feed, and work done without an ESA notification because the customer did not know to ask.

The point of this site is a straight line to a contractor who holds the licence the trade requires, looks at the panel and the wiring before pricing anything, does the load calculation and shows it, breaks the scope out line by line, files the ESA notification under their own licence, and says plainly when the smaller job is the right one.

What we will not do: publish reviews we do not have, invent a rating or a star count, print a licence number on a website where it cannot be verified, quote a fixed price without seeing the house, claim any brand certification, or sell your phone number. This site is new. It says what it can do and nothing more.

What the licence means

In Ontario, anyone doing electrical work for hire must be a Licensed Electrical Contractor, licensed through the Electrical Contractor Registration Agency of the Electrical Safety Authority. Licensed contractors file a notification of work with ESA for jobs that require one, ESA inspects, and the certificate that follows is what insurers and the city rely on. The contractor behind this site holds that licence and the licence number is on their quote and paperwork, where ESA can verify it. The electricians doing the work are certified through Skilled Trades Ontario.

What the contractor handles

• Panel upgrades: fuse to breaker, panel replacement, 100- to 200-amp service upgrades, subpanels
• EV charger installation: load calculations, Level 2 circuits, load management, garage and driveway installs
• Knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring: assessment, partial or whole-house rewiring, aluminum re-termination, the ESA certificate
• Pot lights and lighting: recessed LED, under-cabinet, exterior, dimmers and switches, ceiling fans
• Rental-property electrical: walk-throughs, repairs, ESA general inspections, basement apartment circuits, smoke and CO alarm wiring

What it does not handle

Fire alarm systems and commercial life-safety work, which is a specialised field. Low-voltage networking, data cabling and cameras, which is a different trade. Furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners as equipment, which is HVAC; the circuit that feeds them is ours, the equipment is not. Building permits for renovations and new units belong to the City of Waterloo or the relevant township, and the utility side of a service change belongs to the local utility. Anyone working in your house should be able to show current WSIB coverage and liability insurance, and this contractor can. You will be told when a job belongs to someone else rather than sold something that will not fix it.

How this works

When you call 226-400-7138 or send the form, your details go straight to the electrical contractor's office. They arrange a visit to look at the panel, the service and the wiring in the area that matters, do the load calculation if the job adds load, then quote the work in writing with the scope broken out, the ESA notification included and any utility involvement stated. The work is done under their own ECRA/ESA licence and insurance. Your information is not sold, not shared with a list of competing companies, and there is no markup added to your bill for the introduction.

What we won't do

• Publish reviews we didn't earn. When we have them, they'll be real ones with names.
• Quote a firm price before someone has seen the job.
• Send anyone into your property who we would not have in our own.
